It has been clear from the very beginning that 2018 could not be a one-off, that it was not a one-time celebration. Instead, the title of European Capital of Culture would be a driver for the sustainable development of our region. We are fulfilling that ambition by working on a new triennial programme called Arcadia, a 100-day international art and culture event, the first one to be held from April to July 2022.

We see 2028 as a dot on the horizon and think about how we can become the best version of ourselves, using the 17 Global Goals as the framework. We use this website to keep you informed of all the developments and you’ll find more information about our programme in the coming months. You’ll also be able to read stories by people who were involved in one or more projects in 2018. New stories from people working on new initiatives. And you can find information on how to participate or contact us.

We all look back on a fantastic 2018 in which we proudly carried the title of European Capital of Culture. It was a year that produced a lot of stories. Some can be found here. And we’ll be writing new stories soon. Because we are just getting started.
